The problem with that logic is that the only one that can kill Alucard is Alucard himself if he wanted to, so your kryptonite example doesn't work here. I don't see any reason for him to consume more souls since he doesn't need them anymore.

Honestly, I wouldn't change anything. DMC never had a good story to begin with (DmC included *ehem*) so a prequel doesn't interest me in the slightest when we have DMC3. That's enough for me.
