"freedom of speech is going out the window."

That's a good thing, IMO. People need to shut up.

I think people should be allowed to say what they want. Deplatforming people lends credence to their ideas. You have to let the crazy people say crazy things, or none of the sane people will be able to put them in their place.

@DreadnoughtDT Exactly. Like the edgy, thoughtless, foolish comment above yours. It's the basis for any sane and healthy society, being able to express your ideas. If those ideas offend someone, they in turn have the right to say it and retort. That's how it works. Exposing bullshit is much more effective than censoring it.

Censorship is the means of someone without arguments, too much power, and who can't handle actual critical discussions about controversial topics. YouTubers should grow a spine, group up against this issue rather than going "sorry, hope you understand". Like the fuss from some years ago regarding the new stupid ass flagging system, which many thought broke the law. Big fuss for a while, then they just accepted it.

People stop fighting it because they, sometimes rightly, believe that corporations will not stop no matter what we say. It's a sad reality, but we live in the age of apathy, where people believe that everyone else will fight their battles for them.

So you really believe the world would benefit from people being silenced. That is rather pitiable.

Surely only through sensible, mature discourse can people learn to understand and respect one another? You don't have to agree but it serves no purpose to silence critics or those whose opinions oppose your own. If we surround ourselves with yes men, we just make ourselves dumber and small-minded.

There is a difference between disagreement and genuine hate speech - unfortunately these days everything even remotely opposing is seen as hatred or "somethingphobic"...
