Devil May Cry 2 Boss: Plutonian and Tartarussian
devil-may-cry-2-not-available.gif

Difficulty (DMD):
02-star.gif

Location: Mission 2

Orangguerra’s Profile
This is the first boss you will encounter playing as Lucia, fortunately they serve as good practise for her as they are extremely slow and cannot keep up with Lucia’s lightning fast moves. His weapon of choice is a pair of maces grafted to his arms, which are obscenely slow. A good way to soften him up is by firing from a distance with your firearms (making sure to strafe and avoid his attacks of course), virtually all of his moves are easily avoidable. Be sure to take advantage of his vulnerability when he has missed with an attack, as you will have a short window to get a few hacks and slashes in while he is recovering.

Another bonus is that his posture always dictates his attacks so learn to read him like a book. Whenever you are able to transform into your devil alter-ego then go for it and charge right in there, he will be unable to attack you while you pummel him with your attacks.

Unfortunately, later on your paths will meet again and you will be forced to fight him along with some Agonofinis, but the overall strategy for defeating him doesn’t change

Devil May Cry 2 Boss: Orangguerra

Difficulty (DMD):
02-star.gif

Location: Mission 3

Orangguerra’s Profile
Orangguerra is a giant gorrilla that you face in the Train Station and he certainly isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer but his attacks certainly pack a punch when they connect. He’ll often hang from the ceiling and walls and try to jump on top of you when you’re near, so be warned, his attacks can be quite damaging. When he returns to the floor you must avoid his punches and attempt to strike him whenever you can get behind him and shoot him from a distance to help build up your devil trigger.

This is pretty much the key to overcoming Orangguerra, avoid his attacks while getting a few of your own in while he is vulnerable. Your goal is to get enough hits in to build up your devil trigger then unleash everything you have on him. Rinse, wash and repeat. He isn’t a terribly difficult enemy at all.

Devil May Cry 2 Boss: Jokatgulm
devil-may-cry-2-jokatgulm-01.gif

Difficulty (DMD):
03-star.gif

Location: Mission 4

Jokatgulm’s Profile
At first this boss can be a little overwhelming, but once you have the basic strategy for defeating her down she becomes a bit of a pushover. She will use her four tentacles to attack you but it’s important to bare in mind that you should concentrate on taking out only one tentacle at a time, trying to destroy them all will be a waste of time as they regenerate anyway, we just need to eliminate one to buy us enough time to land a few strikes on her. Jokatgulm’s attacks are quite limited though, so learning how to counter what’s thrown at you shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

Occasionally a tentacle will sweep across the floor, to avoid this simply jump high enough for it to brush right underneath you. It will also propel one of it’s tentacles at you, this can be dodged this pretty easily in a number of ways. The only other attacks it has at it’s disposal is a poisonous spray that it will use to surround it’s torso with.

As lame as it is, the easiest way to defeating Jokatgulm is by keeping to a safe distance and going nuts with your pistols, taking care to avoid it’s tentacle attacks. One a tentacle is weakened, get in there and let rip with your favourite melee weapon. Yes it’s lame, but effective.

Devil May Cry 2 Boss: Nefasturris
devil-may-cry-2-nefasturris-01.gif

Difficulty (DMD):
02-star.gif

Location: Mission 6

Nefasturris’s Profile
This boss is perhaps the most underwhelming boss in the game, considering how it was showcased in several of Devil May Cry 2′s earlier trailers he’s a bit of a disappointment. Anyway, to start off with whipe out either your pistols or shotgun and stay shooting at him until you are able to use your devil trigger. When that magic moment comes, go ahead and transform and fly over to it’s position and attack him.

It only has a few basic attacks, most of which are very, very simple to dodge. It’s primary attack being the giant laser beam it fires from it’s mouth, jumping over it when it draws near is enough to avoid it. From time to time it will use a multi laser beam attack, this can be a little trickier to dodge so make sure you have your wits about you. It will also surround itself with bats, but they will leave after a while without any provocation.

The second part of the fight however is where it becomes more of a challenge, you will need to fight the decapitated head of Nefasturris (Nefascapitis). The head will hover around you, just continue to shoot it with the shotgun while it is in this state, shifting out the way of it’s attacks. It sticks pretty rigidly to it’s previous set of attacks but with a few minor variations.

When it eventually lands on the floor it means it will attempt to hit you with it’s multi laser attack, simply make your way round to the back of it’s head and slash it with everything you’ve got, if you have a full devil trigger gauge handy that will help drastically shorten it’s life span.

Devil May Cry 2 Boss: Tateobesu
devil-may-cry-2-tateobesu-01.gif

Difficulty (DMD):
03-star.gif

Location: Mission 7

Tateobesu’s Profile
Only Lucia has the task of fighting this tricky boss and unusually the entire battle is staged underwater, unfortunately meaning you will be limited to just using the bow gun. Tateobesu is capable of turning invisible, denying you the chance to get a lock-on with your bow gun but he is still plainly visible to the naked eye. While he’s in this state the only thing you can really do is just shoot at him for the time being.

Whenever his tail turns white it means it’s preparing to whip you with it, so try and swim to a side to avoid it and when he eventually becomes visible again be careful of his charging attack, swim as fast as you can and if done correctly you should be able to wind up behind him when he rushes by allowing you to blast away with your bow gun some more. Keep in mind that you are able to use your devil trigger underwater so use that to your advantage.

Devil May Cry 2 Boss: Furiataurus
devil-may-cry-2-furiataurus-01.gif

Difficulty (DMD):
02-star.gif

Location: Mission 8

Furiataurus’s Profile
This boss is exclusive to Dante and is definitely one of the more enjoyable adversaries to be found in Devil May Cry 2 simply because of his “brawling” type techniques. Be prepared to dodge frantically as this boss doesn’t pull any punches (literally). He has a more extensive list of moves then some of your previous enemies which makes him that little bit more unpredictable, but the general strategy for this fight is to avoid his attacks and unleash some of your own whenever you see the opportunity. Whenever he charges at you, quickly move out the way and strike him while his back is turned. But don’t try to attack for too long though, or he will take a swing at you.

He will also catapult himself into the air and come crashing down to the ground creating a ring of fire around himself. Steer clear of his whirlwind technique as well, it’s difficult to escape and jumping will only make it worse, try flipping and sprinting as fast as you can in the opposite direction.

Morphing into your devil trigger state and hacking away at him is a good way of stunning him and will sap his health quickly.

Devil May Cry 2 Boss: Noctpteran
devil-may-cry-2-noctpteran-01.gif

Difficulty (DMD):
03-star.gif

Location: Mission 10

Noctpteran’s Profile
The good news is that the main boss, Noctpteran, has virtually no offensive attacks, the bad news is that it can spawn larva to attack and generally harass you. In order to stop the constant barrage of larva being produced we need to eliminate the giant moth that is creating them. The strategy behind this fight isn’t at all complex, it’s just a case of eliminating Noctpteran first and getting Dante to turn his attention to the remaining larva afterwards.

Whenever one of these creatures charge you they will try and swallow you whole, slashing away from inside will kill them in a single hit and free you though. Shooting these from the air will help build up your devil trigger, which you will need to use to fly up to the giant moth and to unleash a barrage of bullets upon it, you’ll notice it’s defence is quite low and bullets seem to tear right through it’s health. When a larva is killed the moth will return to the floor to lay a replacement, this is your only chance to attack it with your sword so make it count.

Once the giant mother has been killed, you will need to destroy the few remaining larva, which are pretty straight forward.

Devil May Cry 2 Boss: Bolverk
devil-may-cry-2-bolverk-01.gif

Difficulty (DMD):
03-star.gif

Location: Mission 11 | Mission 16

Bolverk’s Profile
This fight belongs to Dante, Bolverk is desperate for revenge against Sparda for defeating him so many years ago, and he believes that there is no better way to do this by killing his only remaining son. Bolverk is aided by his two incredibly nimble wolves, Freki and Geri. I personally find it’s a good idea to dispatch the two troublesome wolves before concentrating on Bolverk (especially on the Dante Must Die difficulty). Bolverk’s attacks can be very powerful, and you will have to keep your distance while you tend to Freki and Geri.

Try not to use your guns against Bolverk, as he has a nasty tendency of elongating his spear and slash you with it, but you must also try not to let the gap betwen you become too long as he will just charge and bulldoze right into you. A good defence is a good offence in this fight so keep smashing him with your sword and he will be unable to retaliate.

Your second encounter with Bolverk however will become alot more difficult as the fight will take place in a much more cramped room.

Devil May Cry 2 Boss: Arius
devil-may-cry-2-arius-01.gif

Difficulty (DMD):
01-star.gif

Location: Mission 13

Arius’s Profile
Arius (in his first form) is quite possibly the easiest boss in the game (probably even the entire Devil May Cry series of games too). He relies on his rather weak gun to cause damage most of the time, his other attacks serve as ways of keeping a distance from you such as the portal he will conjure up to envelope you and toss you across the room.

Arius will summon various enemies to defend him at regular intervals, alot of the time they will be able to overwhelm you with their numbers but it really is best to concentrate squarely on Arius and only attack a lesser enemy when one is in your way. Arius will occasionally teleport around the room, shoot him while you approach his position and if you are are fortunate enough to be standing when he teleports to then let rip with your strongest sword and the fight will be a very short one.

Devil May Cry 2 Boss: Phantom
devil-may-cry-2-phantom-01.gif

Difficulty (DMD):
03-star.gif

Location: Mission 14

Phantom’s Profile
The giant spider-scorpion hybrid, Phantom proved pretty popular in the original Devil May Cry, now he’s back in the sequel for a cameo role (he doesn’t really have much of a story behind his appearance in this game though). You’ll be pleased to know that most of his attacks and strategies remain similar to his outing in the previous Devil May Cry, so expect to see him flair his claws when you get closer to his face, attempt to leap onto you and crush you, not to mention the old technique where he summons a trio of lava columns right under your feet.

Something you will greatly want to avoid is the fireball that he will launch from his mouth every so often, whenever you see his mouth open wide and begin to illuminate, that means run. This time round however, Phantom is alot more susceptible to bullets so be sure to let rip with your throwing knives or handguns whenever there’s some space between the two of you. Also, try and get a few slashes in at his face whenever possible as this is his main weakness, always watching his posture and dodging whenever he tries to slash you with his massive claws. A few devil trigger transformations can make short work of Phantom.

Devil May Cry 2 Boss: Trismagia
devil-may-cry-2-trismagia-01.gif

Difficulty (DMD):
04-star.gif

Location: Mission 16

Trismagia’s Profile
Trismagia is a rather ugly tri-face boss, each of it’s three heads stand for a different element; the blue face is ice, the red face is fire and the purple face is lightning. It would be fair to warn you that Trismagia is probably the most difficult boss you will face this far as he can be pretty unforgiving with his attacks. In his first form he only has one attack, and that’s a homing blast attack, this can be tricky to dodge if you’re not careful.

When the heads are separated the ice version will shoot ice at you but they can be easily avoided, it will also shower you with ice spikes but provided you move out of the way of the shadows that appear then they will miss you. The lightning face will try and shock you with spheres that shoot out electrical beams at you but they can also be dodged fairly easy. Use your projectile weapons until you are able to use your devil trigger and attack him from behind. I must stress again that Trismagia is definitely one of the more challenging boss’s in the game.

Devil May Cry 2 Boss: Argosax The Chaos
devil-may-cry-2-argosax-01.gif

Difficulty (DMD):
03-star.gif

Location: Mission 18

Argosax The Chaos’s Profile
The battle with Argosax The Chaos can be a pretty lengthy one so be prepared. Argosax is the culmination of all the bosses in the game so far (as well as Griffon from the original Devil May Cry believe it or not) that has formed into a giant blob. He is also capable of unleashing any the previous bosses moves at will.

For the fight with Argosax you’ll find that you will have to rely on your experience with fighting all of the other bosses to get past this one. Stay far back and unload your handguns into him, he closer you are the easier it is for Argosax to hit you. Be especially careful when facing Griffon, he is tougher then when you fought him in the original Devil May Cry, his elecitrical beams are summoned and launched much more quickly.

Devil May Cry 2 Boss: Despair Embodied
devil-may-cry-2-not-available.gif

Difficulty (DMD):
03-star.gif

Location: Mission 18

Despair Embodied’s Profile
This boss can be pretty intimidating the first time round as he will continually attack and not let up, as cool as he looks though we need to take him out. His attacks deal alot of damage and he moves alot faster then Dante can. I find that the best strategy is to keep your distance, do not be a hero and try to sneak up behind him because he will just use a 360 degree slash attack which can really drain your health. Just stay away and fire your guns to slowly whittle down his health, once your devil trigger gauge is full use it as soon as possible, but be warned that he is still faster then you.

Watch out for when he teleports, if he disappears and reappears next to you then you must escape or he will perform an attack on you. He will also use a stinger attack on you similar to your own only much more powerful. Occasionally he will morph his arms into whips and try and lash you, keep your distance to avoid his reach.

Devil May Cry 2 Boss: Possessed Arius
devil-may-cry-2-possessed-arius-01.gif

Difficulty (DMD):
02-star.gif

Location: Mission 18

Possessed Arius’s Profile
Possessed Arius isn’t really all that difficult, his main flaw is that whenever he performs a certain attack he will pause for a brief few seconds allowing you to get some valuable hits in. I find it easiest to just dodge his attacks and attack him right afterwards while he is vulnerable.

One of his more annoying attacks is his life drain technique, you can immediately tell this is coming when he opens up his chest, try and avoid this at all costs as it will only prolong the fight, should you get caught then keep mashing your Playstation 2 controller buttons to escape quicker. Keep an eye open for his rock throw attack as well as that can ne quite damaging if it connects with Dante. His laser beam attacks however are another weakness for him, when he uses this ability he will be leaving his back vulnerable, allowing you to slash away and quickly knock down his stamina.

Devil May Cry 2 Boss: Arius-Argosax
devil-may-cry-2-arius-argosax-01.gif

Difficulty (DMD):
01-star.gif

Location: Mission 18

Arius-Argosax’s Profile
The final boss battle in the game with Arius-Argosax is unfortunately quite an anti-climax as he is just so effortlessly easy to defeat. Its possible to just use the canyon to keep at a safe distance and hit him with your projectiles, dodging his attacks when he gets closer and swapping to other other end of the canyon. He will still try and use his life drain technique every now and then so just try and avoid that, he will also use a bite and tail whipe attack every now and then but those are also easily avoidable.
