For all I talk about hating my cat (and she is a nightmare, there's no question there), getting told by the vet that we have to put her down has really upset me. These last few days with her are going to be hard...

All the best for you and... Skittles? (Do I remember her name correctly?) It's never easy to let them go, despite the challenges. Saying this with a history with three dogs, last of them being really challenging.

Speaking of that, some of us have an air-fryer for "healthier" eating but actual deep-frying with oil will always taste better...

So, in order to get a second therapy year supported by the state, I was examined by a doctor and was requested to fill in some new questionnaires. The results seem to indicate C-PTSD or at least a trauma response anyway according to the doc – which is pretty damn happy news, because well, 10 years treating depression did not help where 1 year of therapy seems to have done the trick, so getting it confirmed and written down by an expert is of course a happy thought.
Especially when my depression score (where 0-12 is considered healthy) was 3. Three. Damn, I can't recall scoring below 20 since 2009.

Also it's good for my chances to get state monetary support for the second therapy year.

I'm sorry. My girlfriend had to go through this earlier in the year with her dog who she grew up with since childhood. It's never easy.

The final act is easier to follow and the protagonist has a stronger emotional undercurrent. So the ending landed stronger.

Wondering if I should read The Girl With Glass Feet again, but on the other hand, rereading is kinda "meh" sometimes.

Anyone who has read it, got fantasy book recommendations with similarly beautiful language? Doesn't matter if it's purple-prosish (like TGWGF definitely is). Something like Patricia E. McKillip would definitely work as well.

Thanks everyone - the kids are taking it fairly well, although I expect plenty of tears on Thursday when I take her to the vet and come back empty-handed.

I've arranged for a small memorial plaque for their bedroom shelf - plus we've taken loads of pictures of Skittles.

It's weird because she's still here but we're having to plan life without her. My middle son is acting like she's already died and won't even look at her...I think it's the only way he can process it all.

I'm done with pets for the foreseeable future though. Couldn't do this again.

I've got a faint memory of one of the Harry Potter books having a scene where it's raining during a quidditch match, so to give Harry a chance to see something, Hermione casts a raindrop-repellent spell on his glasses.

Every time it rains and I have to step outside, I think that's probably the greatest spell in the whole series.

Would use it if that kind of magic was real (and if it didn't conflict with my religion lmao).

If you ask me it can also be useful for people like me when wear mask in this pandemic (I also wear glasses) and the steam from the mask sits on the glasses, like the rain you mentioned.

The steam is such a pain - I found the only masks that reduced it enough were the disposable medical ones that come in packs over here. I can mould the top to the bridge of my nose and reduce the steaming...it's not perfect but better than not being able to see

Yeah, I cannot use any reusable masks for the same reason. Only the disposable ones... which feels bad because of creating so much waste.

At my work, we have to wear safety glasses inside clean room environments; a trick that a lot of specialists use here is washing the lenses with soap and warm water, it helps keeping them from getting fogged up. Apparently surgeons do this too I hear

She's gone.

That was quite possibly the most traumatic thing I've witnessed in quite some time, but at least she's ok now. Turns out her kidneys were failing and she would have only had 3-6 months left anyway, all of them in pain, had we left her alive.

Drowning my sorrows and bawling my eyes out. Brb.

Take care of yourself. It's never an easy decision.

We had to let go of our previous dog because of several spinal problems. His past was not known in full, so it was suspected he might have gotten into an accident or that someone had hit him when he was a puppy.
He was a lovely dog and only about 3 years of age, but the rest of his life would have been a mix of painkillers and having to stay in a cage through the worst times. That's not a dog's life, so we put him asleep.

The dog we had before him had a kidney failure as well and had to be put to sleep in less than 3 years of age too.

It's not OK to let them suffer. You did the right thing.
