i haven't heard anything officially, but my theory is right after DMC1. in the trailers, dante is in his DMC1 outfit with rebellion, right? so since he gave the sparda sword to trish, (which, as we know, was the force edge at the beginning) dante switched over to rebellion. this i also why he has it in 2 and 4
